SOL G.12 Computer Simulations

Students will visit the sites listed and compare the Computer Simulations to the manual drawings, and then compare and contrast the different mediums used.

(this site shows some great examples of CAD drawings by means of a flash show)

(this site shows residential house drawings, cabinets and other relate-able information)

SOL G.12 Understanding Blueprints

Students will visit the sites listed below to gain a better understanding of blueprints and how they relate to Geometry. These sites also give examples of blueprint drawings and how they need to be understood.

SOL G.12 Understanding Perspective

Students will visit the web sites listed to gain a better understanding of what a perspective is and how it may be used in geometrical figures.

SOL G.12 Understanding a Scale Model

Students will research the World Wide Web to find more information regarding Scale Models. They will find at least one definition and two examples of Scale Models.

The sites listed below will help students find the required information.

SOL G.12 Understanding 2-D and 3-D Drawings

Student's will research the World Wide Web and find 3 different examples of 2-D drawings and 3-D drawings so they get an understanding of the similarities and differences between the two. They can use the following sites to help them.

Students will also define, given the websites, what a two-dimensional drawing is and what a three-dimensional drawing is.

Students are not restricted to the given websites, they may venture off on their own.

Standards of Learning

Geometry

SOL #: G.12

Grade Level: 9-12

My drafting class uses this SOL weekly. I allow students to select one of the models from my assortment of hand designed models past students have constructed. Once they select a model they will have to draw the top, front, left and side views as well as select the proper software to show shade, shadow, color and texture in perspective form.

The G.12 SOL is as follows:

The student will make a model of a three-dimensional figure from a two-dimensional drawing and make a two-dimensional representation of a three-dimensional object. Models and representations will include scale drawings, perspective drawings, blueprints, or computer simulations.

WELCOME

Hello everyone. As you can see from my BLOG title my name is Bruce Bogese and I'm a Computer Assisted Drafting and Design teacher. Currently, I'm teaching at Prince Edward County High School which is located in Prince Edward County in the town of Farmville. I have been teaching at PECHS since August of 1998. Previously, I taught one year in the Nottoway School system. I also taught Interior Design classes at a private college in Fort Lauderdale, Florida for 3 years starting in 1987. I returned to Petersburg, Virginia, where I was born and raised, to continue my education in 1990. I attended Richard Bland College in Petersburg and Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) where I earned a degree in Psychology and a minor in Elementary Education.

I'm also the girl's volleyball, girl's and boy's swim, and boy's tennis coach. I began coaching the boy's tennis team the same year I began teaching.

My wife is employed at Longwood University in the admissions department so I feel I know first hand what College and Universities are looking for in high school students academically and I can relay that message on to the students I instruct through my wife's message.

I also have a son who will be attending high school next year.
